Information for the English Learners Program at
ELAC Meetings
Parents, students, and community members are invited to attend quarterly meetings of the SLOHS English Learners’ Advisory Committee. The purpose of ELAC is to facilitate communication between the school and parents, students, and community members to help strengthen and support EL student success at SLOHS.
Tutoring Opportunities
Ms. Nora Toni is available to help students with tutoring needs requiring Spanish translation before school and at lunch in Room 130 and after school in Room 100.
The Tiger Tutoring Center for all subjects after school in the Library from 3:15-4:15.
The Math Lab late start Mondays and after school in Room 100.
CAHSEE Tutoring after school (sign-up required).
If student misses school bus to attend tutoring, a one-trip coupon to ride the city bus is available if needed.
Thursday Grade
Reports
Pick-up weekly grade report forms in the Counseling Office on Thursdays to take around for teachers to sign each week.
Developmental Assets
List of 40 building blocks of healthy development that help young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.
Available in English and Spanish on school website.
Healthy Families
Low cost insurance for children and teens. It provides health, dental and vision coverage to children who do not have insurance and do not qualify for free Medi-Cal. Link available in English and Spanish on school website.
Latino Outreach Program - SLO County Behavioral Health Services
Therapy, medication, support groups, and workshops for the mental health needs of the Spanish speaking Latino community. The services are free. Contact Silvia Ortiz, Ph.D. (805) 788-2136.

Longman Diccionario Ingles Basico - available for check-out to CELDT level 1-3 students.
Longman Dictionary of American English - available for check-out to CELDT level 4-5 students.
Reading Volunteers in the EL Classroom
Parents and community members proficient in English are volunteering to increase the amount of one-on-one reading practice for each student in the EL classroom. Interested in becoming a reading volunteer? Please contact Mr. Leebrick or Mr. Schoensee by email or by phone at 596-4040.
Scholarships from Wells Fargo Bank and the Latino Outreach Council of SLO County
Several $500 scholarships are being offered to any 12th grade Latino student at San Luis Obispo High School who are first generation students in their family to attend college. Applications are available in the SLOHS Career Center.
