Purpose
of the Project:
To extend learning
beyond classroom presentations.
To develop personal skills in organization,
research, and creative thought.
Group
Size:
Individual or pairs
only. If you work with another person, you must realize that you are agreeing
to a “shared” effort and result.
Due
Dates:
10/22/04 Submit a one page typed outline
of what you plan to do for your project.
The plan must include a title, purpose,
and procedure as well as your timeline for planning.
11/12/04 Final project due.
Ethics:
You may receive advice
from your parents or others but the project
must be your own design and your own effort
to be considered acceptable for a grade.
Types
of Projects:
This is a project, not a research paper.
This means you must conduct a study related
to topics included in the 1
st trimester
course outline.
It might be a collection, a photographic
study, a visit to a public agency, a service project
for the classroom, school or community, etc.
It’s up to you to decide.
Investigate something of interest to you.
Reporting:
Your final project
must be a stand-alone science-fair type display.
A poster in three sections works well
for the display.
Your display must include the title and
purpose of your study along with any data you
collected, your analysis of that data and conclusions. Your data will vary with the project you choose.
It might include measurements, photographs,
numbers of individuals…
Your analysis is typically in the form
of tables and graphic data, but could take another
form. Bring
some numerical analysis into your project whenever
possible. The quality and professional appearance of
your display is of utmost importance.
Oral
Defense:
Once we have all had
a chance to look over all the projects for your
class, you will be asked to answer questions
about your study.
No formal report will be given.
Your answers to the questions will determine
50% of your project grade.
You should be prepared to explain your
answers in depth.
