Students will be guided to discover how to design and create projects from plans and reverse engineering while learning how to safely use hand and power tools with hands-on demonstrations. Individuals will be assessed on their design and workmanship, work ethic/ attitude and demonstration of safe operation of all tools.

Students will continue to discover how to design and create projects with emphasis on furniture and cabinet making in both personal and school projects. The student explores the woodworking industry as well as continuing to develop skills and knowledge about equipment, materials, and maintenance of machine and hand tools. Individual student projects beyond the curricular objectives may be charged a supplies / materials fee.

Advanced woodworking students will progress in their knowledge and skills in the woodworking industry. The students will be involved in building cabinets and furniture. A portion of the program will be devoted to materials and processes of related trades and industries. Work will consist of hands-on demonstrations, class discussions, field trips, and school and student projects. Individual student projects beyond the curricular objectives may be charged a supplies/materials fee.

From ground level to management, this course is designed for the hands-on learner to experience an overview of the residential construction process and understand how to start a career in this area.

This coursework is project-based, and will develop teamwork and project management skills. Students master measurement systems, safe use of hand and power tools, calculation and characteristics of materials, carpentry, framing, basic electrical wiring, plumbing, and site preparation. The culminating project is a house that will include concrete/masonry, framing, electrical, plumbing, and finish work. Students demonstrate responsibility for personal, occupational safety on the job site and have the opportunity to obtain OSHA cards certifying their competence while integrating the principles of geometry.
