College Admissions Testing

SAT & ACT

Some colleges require students to submit SAT or ACT scores with their academic information on college applications.

Students interested in testing should begin by taking the PSAT10 in March of their Sophomore Year and the PSAT/NMSQT in October of their Junior Year. Both of these tests are offered annually on the SLOHS campus, please read the Principal's Newsletter for all dates and deadlines. The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is cosponsored by College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The PSAT/NMSQT is the screening test for high school students who wish to participate in the National Merit Scholarship Program, an annual academic competition for recognition and college scholarships. Taking these two tests is excellent preparation and also allows students to see how they compare to students from all over the country.

It is best practice to take the SAT &/or ACT in the spring of Junior Year, students may test as many times as they like but must complete all testing by December of Senior Year.
