Course Description: Intermediate Patient Care is a two trimester CTE health science course at the high school level. This competency-based course is designed to explore human anatomy and physiology as it pertains to athletic movements of the body as well as hands-on training in the basic duties of emergency medicine, athletic training, and academic proficiency in a medical environment. Students learn about athletic injuries as well as treatments and rehabilitation techniques for those injuries with emphasis on: the head, spine, chest and abdomen, lower leg and foot, upper leg and pelvis, shoulder, hand and wrist. Throughout the course students will explore different medical career paths and will become certified in CPR, 1st Aid, and AED use.

Course Description: The second year of the pathway expands student learning into emergency medicine, patient assessment, and clinical decision making. This course integrates biological science, anatomy, and physiology with real-world patient scenarios, allowing students to apply scientific reasoning to medical emergencies.

Students learn essential patient care skills used by first responders and healthcare providers, including:

• Patient assessment and vital signs interpretation

• Airway management and respiratory emergencies

• Bleeding control and shock management

• Recognition of medical emergencies such as stroke, asthma, and diabetic crisis

• Safe lifting, moving, and positioning of patients

• Emergency documentation and communication protocols
